Learn about spirits through a 4-week online study program that is flexible to work around your busy lifestyle. The course covers the same syllabus as the classroom course, but through a supported and interactive Online Classroom which allows you to study alongside your peers under the guidance of a dedicated educator. Please note that the exam is completed in person and not online.

This online course will guide you through the world’s key spirit categories and production methods. The course is designed to introduce spirits in an interactive, structured and concise manner. You will learn how to taste spirits using a systematic approach.

Tasting Glasses

You will be required to bring your own glassware to class.  A great tasting glass is an extremely important tool, and Spiegelau's Expert Tasting Glasses are an excellent choice If you would like to purchase a set of six glasses, please click here.  Glasses will be delivered to you at the first class.

 

The WSET Level 2 Award in  Spirits covers the main categories of spirits and liqueurs as well as the influences of production methods on the different styles available in each category. Students will develop high level analytical tasting skills while also exploring the use of spirits in cocktails. The product knowledge gained on this course will be a significant advantage to those working with spirits in both the on- and off-trade.

Who should take this course

  • You are a spirits enthusiast who wish to gain in-depth knowledge of spirits and cocktails and wants to obtain an internationally recognized spirits qualification
  • You are employed in the drinks and hospitality industries and have little prior knowledge of alcoholic beverages in general and spirits and cocktails in particular

Prerequisites

  • WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits is not required to take this course. However, you should have a good base knowledge of wine before registering for Level 2.

The WSET Award in Spirits is the ideal starting point for the novice spirits enthusiast, or those working with spirits.

This hands-on course will guide you, using sight, smell and taste, through the world’s key spirit categories and production methods. The course is designed to introduce spirits in an interactive, structured and fun manner.

The morning session covers an introduction to spirits production, how to taste spirits before we delve into Brandy, Vodka, and Whisk(e)y.

After lunch, we'll have a mini review of the morning followed by Rum, Tequila, and Flavoured Spirits. Lastly, we will learn about the storage and service of spirits.

Who should take this course

  • You have limited spirits knowledge and you want to  learn about the main styles of spirits and how they are made
  • You are starting your first job in hospitality or retail

  • Factors affecting the flavour of spirits
  • Tutored tastings of 10 spirits
  • How to serve spirits

This is a one-day course. There is a 30-question multiple choice test at the end of the day. When you pass, you will receive a certificate from Adventure in Wine as well as an official WSET Level 1 Award in Wine certificate and lapel pin.

The course explores the major grape varieties and important regions that define the world’s key wines in a structured and engaging format. You’ll learn about production, key labelling terminology and major classifications to help you identify wines with confidence. A basic introduction to the main spirits categories is also provided.
