- The key characteristics of the main
- still wines of the world
- sparkling wines of the world
- fortified wines of the world
- How to make appropriate wine recommendations
- How to taste wines using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
- Tutored tastings of approximately 90 wines
What are the requirements?
WSET Level 2 is not a prerequisite for this course. However, WSET Level 3 requires substantial wine knowledge and is quite a challenging program, even to those who have taken many other wine classes. For this reason, we highly recommend taking Level 2 before embarking on Level 3. If you feel your wine knowledge is advanced enough, we would ask that you write an entrance exam. We highly recommend that you get 80% on the exam to move forward. The exam is held online.
During the program, you will be expected to spend considerable time studying on your own. Including time spent in class, WSET recommends that a minimum of 84 hours is spent on preparation.
The final exam takes place one week after the last class. It is two hours in length and covers both theory and tasting. The theory exam includes 50 multiple choice questions and four short written answers. For the tasting portion, candidates will be presented with two wines blind for which a complete analysis using the Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® will have to be written.
