Michelle Paris is a wine educator based in Toronto. She is also a Certified Ambassador of the Academy of Wines of Portugal. She has travelled in the region and has judged the Portuguese National Wine Awards. She is currently working towards her Master of Wine designation.
Ryan Opaz is our local guide. He is the CEO of Catavino, a company that specializes in wine and culinary tours in Portugal and Spain. He has been knighted by the Port Wine Brotherhood. Having lived in Spain and Portugal for the past 13 years, he has intimate knowledge of the Portuguese wine regions and its people.
Together, Michelle and Ryan have put together the following itinerary. We hope you are as excited about it as we are!
Arrive at Porto International Airport
Meet private English-speaking driver outside customs. Depart for hotel (one car per couple)
Teatro Hotel (Double Gallery Room with breakfast included)
Dinner at a local wine bar with Ryan Opaz, Catavino’s CEO and wine guide, and Michelle Paris, Sommelier and Wine Educator. (Set menu with wines).
Today we will visit Port wine cellars. Meet Ryan Opaz, Michelle Paris, and your bus driver in the hotel lobby. Cross the river to Vila Nova de Gaia.
Enjoy a private visit at Poças Junior, an independent family-owned business that has been in operation since 1918. Help them celebrate their 100th anniversary! Learn about Port’s history and culture while visiting their cellars, followed by a premium tasting of Tawny Port and the Vintage Fire Opening in their newly built tasting room.
Drive to Vila Nova de Gaia riverfront for lunch (not included).
This afternoon you will test your knowledge with a fun blind tasting at Burmester Port Lodge. The lodge sits in a beautiful location near the lower deck of the D. Luiz bridge, on the river’s edge. This company has been exporting Port since 1750. The Burmester cellars and museum, which were re-opened to the public in 2012, will offer you the opportunity to explore their vast collection of historic items and wines.
Return to hotel.

Enjoy a relaxed dinner at an informal restaurant in Porto (Set menu with wines).
Transfer to hotel.
Visit Luís Pato, one of our favourite wine producers in the region. Enjoy the emblematic dish of Bairrada: roast suckling pig paired with some of the winery’s best sparkling wines.
After lunch, enjoy a private visit and premium wine tasting at the property of Filipa Pato. Filipa’s philosophy is simple: create authentic wines that express the true nature of their vineyards of origin. You will taste some of Portugal’s indigenous grapes - Baga, Bical, Arinto, Cerceal, and Maria Gomes - which Filipa grows biodynamically.
Return to Porto.
Leave for the Douro Valley, land of Port wine.
Private tour at Quinta da Gaivosa, one of six Douro properties owned by the Alves de Sousa family. The de Sousa family also owns other estates along the valley, making them one of the largest independent producers in the Douro.
Private visit at Quinta do Crasto. Located in a magical place, Crasto has developed into one of the leading estates in the Douro Valley. Their cult-wines, Vinha da Ponte and Vinha Marie-Teresa, are among the most highly rated and sought-after wines from Portugal. Premium tasting and lunch in the winery included.
After lunch, relax with a leisurely private cruise along the winding Douro River in a barco rabelo, a majestic wooden sailboat historically used transport the Port wine barrels from the Douro Valley to the Port Lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Visit the picturesque vineyards of Wine & Soul, located in the heart of the beautiful Pinhão Valley in the Douro. This innovative, yet rustic winery was founded by Jorge Serôdio Borges and his wife Sandra Tavares da Silva, two of the most celebrated winemakers in Portugal. Initially, the winery included a lone vineyard, Pintas, but through the years it has gradually expanded to include additional properties, such as the magnificent Quinta da Manoella, located in the Pinhão Valley. Lunch will be served at the Quinta.
After lunch, we head to Quevedo, located in the picturesque town of S. João da Pesqueira in the Douro Superior wine region. Walking in their vineyards overlooking the Douro River, followed by an private wine tasting. This winery is part of a new generation of small family wineries based in the Douro.
Dinner at Toca da Raposa, a quaint restaurant tucked away in the mountainous town of Ervedosa - easy to pass if you blink! The menu focuses on family recipes taken directly from the region. With a fantastic wine list and extremely knowledgeable staff, it’s lovely place to dine.

Leave for Porto.
On the way, stop for a private guided visit, with wine tasting and lunch (pre-set menu with wines), at Quinta da Covela, a boutique winery located on a beautiful estate in the Vinho Verde region, between Douro and Minho. It sits in a geological transition area between granite and schist in a south-facing amphitheater on the river’s right-bank. The estate covers 34 hectares, of which 14 are vineyards. The wines produced include not only some of the greatest whites in Portugal, but also rosés and award- winning reds.

For our final dinner, we’ll be heading out for a seafood fest at O Gaveto. This family- owned restaurant is an icon in the city, not only for its superb wine list, but also for its divine fresh fish. When you walk through the door, you’ll be met with trays of the daily catch, such as stuffed rock crab, cod, and tiny orange shrimp. (Dinner included)

CATAVINO may cancel the booking if payment is not received according to the present terms.

Any additional service(s) or/and space(s) confirmed after the signature of this agreement will be used for calculation of the fee for full or partial cancellation.
